The Budapest Rugby 7s is a rugby event dedicated to the rugby 7s as it has been named, to celebrate the end of the season in Budapest.
Men and women were involved with different teams from different countries. I could mention of course teams from Hungary, but also from England, Scotland, France, Germany, and myself representing Slovakia as external support player for any team willing to give me a shirt.
The rugby pitch located in the South East of Budapest, it was a good opportunity to me for traveling from Bratislava to Budapest by motorbike, and crossing the city center for a beautiful sightseeing of the city, with a more boring highway between the two countries.
The table of the matches above, with bellow the “Alibaba” team from Frankfurt – Germany, surely the most entertaining team, but also very efficient as they went to the final.
The level was pretty high, as an European tournament, to the men and women side. Comparing to the current level in Slovakia, I would highlight faster hand skills, bigger pace for each game, and globally better vision to find the space and the gates to go through. I was pleased to handle that level, physically and technically and competing against real champions was a honor.
Women can be proud, they have deliveried very entertaining games bringing a sexy touch between the men matches, where we could rest and enjoy the good legs… humm sorry I meant the good side steps.
Playing for the Budapest Frogs, and helping the Budapest Exiles, it was a real pleasure to be accepted in those well experienced team, and grateful to François and Medhi who help me to feel like at home.
Cheers to my friend Brice, a former colleague in University of Economy during our Erasmus time in 2009/2010 in Bratislava, when 7 years later we have met again and play together. The world is small, and I’ve met couple of great people that day.
“chat-bite” during the photo-shooting, the spirit of the rugby 7s.
Once again, thanks to the Budapest 7s for inviting me, connecting I believe slowly our two cities Bratislava and Budapest for future exchange, even it’s not easy as clapping fingers.
See you soon guys
