Teraz je čas osláviť 2 výročie Rugby Klubu Bratislava a pozrieť sa naspäť, čo sme dokázali pred začiatkom sezóny Jar 2017.

Začiatok Rugby Klubu Bratislava bol v roku 2015. Do tímu sa pridalo veľa zahraničných hráčov, pár lokálnych, väčšinou kamaráti kamarátov. V tom čase, neexistovala žiadna štruktúra, jediné čo sme mali, bola túžba začať rugby dobrodružstvo spolu. Náš prvý testovací zápas bol Rugby 7s proti Žiline, pričom sme obnovili kontakty so skupinou, s ktorou som hrával rok predtým.

Pomaly sme sa rozvíjali a dostali na slovenské majstrovstvá v Rugby 7s. RKB, len po pár mesiacoch od svojho vzniku, bola pozvaná klubom RC Donau z Viedne hrať proti klubu Krems na 40 minút a proti RC Donau B-tím na ďalších 40 minút. Ďakujeme aj podpore niektorým hráčom zo Slovenska, tým pádom sme boli schopní hrať náš prvý Rugby 15 zápas v Rakúsku.

V roku 2016, počas diskusie ohľadom jarného kalendára zápasov s SRÚ, snažil som sa presvedčiť všetkých, že je dobré vytvoriť druhú divíziu Rugby 15. Najväčší problém pre každý klub je zostaviť 15- kový tím plus záložníci a to stále trvá dodnes. Nakoniec sme druhú divíziu vyhrali, s podporou mnohých zahraničných hráčov; čo bol na jednej strane dobrý výsledok, ale na druhej strane, videl som už na konci sezóny 2015/2016 riziko tohto vývoja.

Na začiatku septembra 2016, ako som očakával pre sezónu 2016/2017, sme čelili nedostatku motivácie od niektorých bývalých členov RKB, väčšina bola zo zahraničia, čo bolo pre nás sklamaním. Keď sme stratili takmer polovicu zostavy, mali sme ťažkosti zostaviť tím pre Rugby 7, pričom sme čelili aj množstvu zranení kvôli nedostatku individuálnej fyzickej prípravy.

Nakoniec cez jeseň to začalo fungovať ako sme plánovali s RKB manažmentom. Vytvorili sme priateľskú atmosféru a dobré športové vzdelávanie s prioritou pre lokálnych ľudí. Naše mužstvo sa zväčšilo; máme mnoho nováčikov; vzdali sme sa druhej divízie pre následníkov zo Žiliny a Piešťan, pretože, samozrejme, nie sme schopní bojovať s novými hráčmi a vyhrať každý zápas.

Medzitým som nezabudol ani na Rugby školu, ktorá sa pomaly rozvíjala, ale nemala žiadne súťaže za rok a pol. Táto situácia sa zmenila s prvým turnajom na jeseň, keď sme spolupracovali so Slovanom a Trnavou, a mali sme najlepšiu účasť fanúšikov počas tohto eventu. Som veľmi nadšení z toho, vidieť hráčov a ich rodičov, ktorí počas posledných 2 rokov sú stále s nami a sklamaní z tých, ktorí sa jeden- dvakrát objavili a potom zmizli, pretože klub nemal dostatok mladých hráčov. Ako by sme mohli rásť, keby každý rozmýšľal týmto spôsobom? Nakoniec, sú tu rozdielne stavy mysle. Buď sa zváži to, že dopyt nie je v Bratislave, alebo naopak, dá sa dobrá ponuka na Rugby klub v Bratislave; prilákať pozornosť a vytvoriť dopyt po kolektívnom športe. Ešte stále tu je miesto pre rugby medzi hokejom, futbalom, basketbalom alebo iným kolektívnym športom.

Dlhá zima 2016/2017 prerušila tréningy, ale RKB manažment stále pracuje na viacerých projektoch zabezpečiť mužstvo seniorov a navrhnúť aktivity pre juniorov a rugby školu. RKB je v diskusii s ďalšími federáciami: českou, maďarskou a rakúskou. Uvidíme, ako ďaleko sa dostaneme, ale čo je najdôležitejšie, je dostať maximum hráčov na ihrisko počas tréningov – rozpočet, peniaze, výbava sú len detaily.

Now it’s time to celebrate the 2 years of the Rugby Klub Bratislava, and look back what we’ve achieved before restarting the spring season 2017.

Beginning the Rugby Klub Bratislava in 2015, a lot of expats initially joined along with some local people, mainly friends of friends. At the time there was no structure and all we had was the desire to start a new rugby adventure together. We made our first test match against Zilina during a rugby 7s match renewing a partnership with a group with which I was playing with a year before.

We then developed slowly to the Slovak championship with the rugby 7s championship. The RKB, after only few months of creation was invited to the RC Donau located in Vienna to play a rugby XV match against Krems for 40 minutes and the RC Donau B-team for an additional 40 mins too. Thanks to the support of some players from Slovakia, we were able to compete in our first rugby XV match in Austria.

In 2016, during the discussion for the spring calendar with the SRU, I tried to convince everyone the benefit of starting a second division rugby XV. The main issue for every club is to set a XV squad plus the bench and that still exists even today. We went on to win the second division with the support of many foreigners, which was a good result in one hand, but on the other hand I saw already at the end of the season 2015/2016 the risk of this kind of development.

Beginning of September 2016, for the season 2016/2017, as I was expecting, we were facing lack of motivation from some of our previous RKB players, most of them were foreigners which was disappointing. Loosing barely half of the squad, we are struggling to propose a 7s squad at the beginning of the season, facing at the same time plenty of injuries due to bad individual physical preparation.

Finally in autumn, the alchemy worked finally as the RKB management planned. Creating a friendly spirit, good sport education with the priority being local people. Our squad has increased, with a lot of beginners, giving up the title of the second division to the new contenders Zilina and Piestany for the season 2016/2017, because obviously we cannot fight on a new recruitment with beginners and being able to win every match.

At the midpoint, I haven’t forgotten about the rugby school which has been growing slowly and surely with youths but not having any competition for a year and half. This situation was resolved when in autumn we had our first tournament with the participation of Slovan and Trnava – and probably the best attendance of fans during this event. I was glad parents and players who started with us 2 years ago are still here today, and really disappointed to see a few others who turned up once or twice and disappeared, because the club didn’t have enough youths. How can we honestly grow if everyone would think like that? And the end, there are different states of mind: either to consider the demand is not present in Bratislava, or the opposite way to propose a good offer for the rugby school, to attract the attention, and create the demand for a collective sport. For sure it would have enough space for the rugby between the hockey, football, basket or any other collective sport.

A long winter 2016/2017 interrupts our training with frozen evenings, but the RKB management has been still been working on some projects to secure the adult squad and propose more activities to the juniors and the rugby school. The Rugby Klub Bratislava is in discussion with 3 federations: Czech, Austrian, and Hungarian. We will see how far we can go, but the most important is to get max of members on the pitch during the training sessions – budget, money, equipments are just details.
