On the 28th September RKB was warmly welcomed to the BIS by 20 juniors, from 12 to 18, all keen to develop their skills and join one of the fastest growing sports in Slovakia. A school which places great importance on sport and social activities, BIS was more than happy to start working with RKB to recruit new young players, some total beginners and others with years of experience.
After a short briefing to introduce RKB to a room of potential new recruits, and answering eager questions about upcoming competitions and when they could see us play, we took a small group onto the field behind BIS to get a feeling for their passion for rugby.
Under the watchful eye of Mr Cook, head of sport and strong supporter of RKB, we took the boys through simple warm up passing exercises and then on to the tackle bags. For half an hour the boys from BIS convinced us that they have the potential to join the junior team, with even the first timers hitting the tackle bags at full speed!
The next challenge is to make sure this raw talent is integrated into the team and ensure they train as often as possible with the older players from whom they will learn a lot. All of RKB’s training sessions are open to all ages, for those who have played for years and new recruits who have yet to get their hands on an oval ball.
In any case, the message is strong, these boys are the future of Slovak rugby!
